Rosedale Court

The Food and Friendship Project has been working with Rosedale Court, sheltered accommodation which is part of the North Star Housing Group.

A group of residents have come together on a regular basis to prepare and share a meal. Residents take turns to decide what they would like to cook and the menus so far have ranged from Stir Fry’s to Sausage Casserole with Turkey Burgers for Christmas.

All of the participants live alone and it can be difficult to get motivated to cook for yourself. Coming together to make and enjoy food makes all the difference.

Preparing food is relaxing and a great way to get to know people. Some residents have improved their cooking skills, tried a few recipes, and now feel more confident to prepare healthy food for themselves. Other people are already very proficient cooks but coming together to chat, help each other and share a few memories has been a very rewarding experience.

Some residents participate in preparing and cooking the food and at the end of each session, others join us, and we all sit down and enjoy a ‘home made’ meal followed by hot drink.

And finally – we wash and tidy up together and decide on what we’ll cook next time. Having recently enjoyed a fantastic chicken curry, next time, we’ve decided on food with a Spanish theme!
