Table Talk

Everyone has within them a story to tell – and we love listening to shared memories. Table Talk helps people make connections and friendships.

There’s always a lot of laughter and discovery at a Table Talk session because everyone has a chance to contribute, and the group takes time to listen to each other’s stories.

The idea was developed by Faithfully Ageing Better. A Table Talk pack contains a set of cards, each with a different question for discussion and the opportunity to share views and memories. The questions can be on all sorts of topics like:

  • How did you meet your husband/wife/best friend?
  • If you could enter a time machine, what time period would you go to?
  • What are your memories of illnesses or hospital when you were a child?
  • What’s one thing you know for sure?

In one Table Talk session we discovered that most of the people present had had diphtheria as a child, with varying treatments. Some had had tonsillectomies and then, with their parents, promptly caught the bus home. And we learned that N had met his wife at a youth club dance many, many years ago but still remembered that the dress she worn had had a square neck and puffed sleeves. We thought that, looking down from heaven, she was probably very proud of him!

Table Talk is a great way to encourage conversation and help people make new friends. If you would like to know more about Table Talk please contact Billy Barnes.
