Every year we invite older people to become involved in Feast of Fun holiday activities and events that bring people together across the generations.

Since 2017, we have invited older people through Faithfully Ageing Better, to share their time, skills and talents with the children and families to create a A Feast of Fun across the Generations.

Special Celebrations

Already in 2019, the small grants programme we run with the Ballinger Charitable Trust has brought together hundreds of people – from babies and toddlers to people in their eighties – to enjoy some special celebrations.

Bringing people together across the generations helps to strengthen families and communities and reduces loneliness and isolation. We look forward to more intergenerational events throughout the year.

Shrove Tuesday
More than 90 people of all ages attended a pancake party in the café at the St John Paul II Pastoral Centre. The pancakes were delicious and a great talking point.

“One older gentleman had taken a table with a couple of other men. He wanted to thank everyone for a great morning and added that ‘the pancakes were lovely’ and that they had ‘reminded me of my Mother’, bringing back memories of the pancakes his Mum had made as they tasted so much like her recipe. I left the men talking about their memories of old.”

Mother’s Day
This year, Mother’s Day was celebrated in style at Holy Trinity Church, North Ormesby, where Family Fridays hosted an intergenerational afternoon tea to celebrate all 'who we love and cherish'.

Party guests were aged 8 months to 80+ years and from eight different countries. A cultural dance group opened the event and then it was time for talking to each other and sharing time together.

Pop-up Mining
The Cleveland Ironstone Mining Museum organised a pop-up mining experience at Boosbeck Village Hall, which included a wonderful intergenerational session with the children of Lockwood Primary School. Everyone had a lovely time and really enjoyed learning together.

Afternoon Tea
St Barnabas Church, Linthorpe, hosted a dementia friendly Afternoon Tea with musical entertainment, which was enjoyed by more than 50 people, including carers. Carers commented on how welcoming everyone was, and how much they appreciated an event being organised for them.

Carers commented on how welcoming and caring everyone was, and how kind people were to have gone to the trouble of organising the event for them.
